Sunday, March 2nd, 2014: Interactions with Jesus Series "Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind"

Watch video of blind man Once I was blind, now I see!”

Note: Consider watching of the video as reading of the text.

Q1) Why was this man born blind?            (John 9:1-5)

Disciples:  Who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind?”

Jesus:  “Neither this man nor his parents sinned.  But this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.”

Sunday, February 23rd, 2014: Interactions with Jesus Series "Jesus and Nicodemus- It's OK to Ask Questions"

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a seeker of Christ:

  • He was a member of the ruling council called Sanhedrin
  • He had seen Jesus teach and perform miracles
  • Nicodemus was a learned teacher who came to learn

1. Asks clarifying questions    (Risk = Loss of Reputation)

Q) Why did Nicodemus come by night?             (John 3:1-15)

Sunday, February 9th, 2014: Interactions with Jesus Series "Jesus and the Adulterous Woman"

The #1 perception of Christians is that they are judgmental.

Q) How can we change that misconception?

The Jewish leaders brought to Jesus a woman caught in adultery and made her stand before Him.

“They stated Moses’ law commands us to stone such women.  Now what do You say?”            (John 8:2-5)

1. Creatively discern & address the real issue  (Jn 8:4-6)

a. If Jesus said “no”:  He would violate the Law of Moses

If adultery, both are to be killed     (#7 of 10 Commandments)

Sunday, February 2nd, 2014: Interactions with Jesus Series "Matthew- Changed Life"

Jesus tells the parable of “Two Men who Prayed”:

Pharisee:                                           (Luke 18:9-14)

  • Confident in his own self-righteousness
  • Looked down on everyone else
  • Went to the Temple not to pray, but to announce how great he thought he was
  • Thanked God he was not like all the other sinners
  • Pridefully stated he fasted 2X /week and gave tithes

Sunday, January 26th, 2014: Interactions with Jesus Series "The Healing of the Invalid at Bethesda"

Bethesda = “House of Grace”

- A spring-fed pool with five covered porches where the sick (blind, lame, paralyzed) waited their turn to step into the stirring waters and be healed.

The man had been invalid for 38 years.     (John 5:1-6)

  • His problem (invalid) had become a “way of life”.
  • He was caught in a cycle of excuse giving
  • He saw no options

Jesus asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

Sunday, January 5th, 2014 "Intentions"

New Years Resolutions…don’t work.

Let’s rethink the concept.

4 Kinds of Life Plans:

#1.  “No” Plan – spontaneous

  • “I don’t know”
  • “Let’s see what happens”
  • Life is controlled by the events of life

#2. “Full” Plan – totally scheduled

  • Nothing left to risk
  • No allowances for deviation from the plan
  • Problem is when trauma comes or unplanned event happens everything comes to a halt

Sunday, December 29th, 2013: Names of God "Jehovah Rohi"

Jehovah-Rohi = The LORD is my Shepherd

  • Pronounced:  juh-HO-vah  RO-hee
  • First mentioned in Psalm 23

1. Christ is The Good Shepherd                  (John 10:14-18)

  • Role:  Christ is the Good Shepherd
  • Relationship:  He knows His sheep and they know Him
  • Sacrifice: Christ willingly lays down His life for His sheep
